YEAR 6

Year 6 students have made a great start to the term, they’re responsible and keen to learn. I have had the pleasure of meeting them all on a personal level and they all have wonderful qualities and attributes that I can see will only continue to flourish.

Students have been watching the “Behind the News” episodes on ABC and one of these episodes covered the N.S.W. floods. We discussed as a class, the cause of the natural disaster and its impact on people, animals and environment. Students then constructed their own rain gauges as part of their learning on how rainfall is measured using a meteorological instrument. We placed these around the school yard and measured the rainfall across a few days. It gave students insight into how the daily and annual rainfall is measured and recorded.

As the film industry in Australia has been booming post-COVID, students have been discovering the process of filmmaking, from its development through to its production. They have been working as a team to plan, film, edit and publish their short films, exploring cinematic techniques along the way. It is a project that both the students and I are excited to be doing and look forward to watching together once they are completed.

Year 6s also presented a play at the school assembly in week 3, with the focus on what to and what not to do during Ramadan. Students created scenarios that were relatable to students and emphasised the importance of using the month of Ramadan to better themselves and to continue with those habits throughout the year.

Wishing students and families celebrating, a wonderful Eid.
